Obama Administration and
Hillary State Department Pays for Imam To Travel
To Middle East to Seek Funds for the Ground Zero Mosque in New
York
Feds send ground zero
mosque imam to Mideast
By MATTHEW LEE (AP) –
August 10, 2010
WASHINGTON — The State Department
says it's sending the imam behind controversial plans for a mosque near the site of
the 9/11 attacks on a religious outreach trip to the Middle
East.
Spokesman P.J. Crowley said Tuesday
that the department is sponsoring Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's visit to Qatar, Bahrain
and the United Arab Emirates, where he will discuss Muslim life in America and
promote religious tolerance. He says the imam had been on similar trips dating back
to 2007 and that plans for the upcoming tour predated the current
controversy.
Crowley says the Obama
administration has no position on Rauf's plans for Islamic center near ground zero
but has respect for his message of moderation, tolerance and religious
diversity.

WASHINGTON — As the U.S. economy
endures high unemployment and a jittery stock market, President Obama has preached
sacrifice and fiscal discipline. But the pictures coming out of a sunsplashed
Spanish resort this week may be sending a different
message.
First lady Michelle Obama is on a
five-day trip to a luxury resort along with a handful of friends, her younger
daughter, Sasha, aides and Secret Service personnel. Her office said the first
family will pay for personal expenses, but declined to reveal the taxpayer cost for
the government employees. The president stayed home in the United States, as did
daughter Malia, 12, who is at camp.

GOP: Repeal Wall Street reform
7/21/10 3:01 PM EDT
Updated: 7/21/10 4:05 PM EDT
POLITICO 44
Chairman of the
House Republican Conference Mike Pence (R-Ind.) called for the repeal of the financial reform bill
that was signed into law Wednesday.
"About $3.7
trillion in taxpayer dollars have already been spent on bailouts of the financial system, and the
American people have said, ‘No more,’" he said in a statement after President Barack Obama signed
the bill. "We need to repeal this new Big Government program and replace it with common
sense reform that protects taxpayers from bailouts, helps put Americans back to work and deals with
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."
Pence said Monday that a Republican-controlled
Congress would have "a broad range of options to reconsider the approach" that Democrats
successfully pursued.
His statement echoes similar comments by House
Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) last week, calling for the measure’s repeal the same day it
cleared the Senate. Democrats said Republicans were fighting to protect the financial industry
before the measure was even law.

NAACP Slams Shirley Sherrod's Actions As 'Shameful'
Updated: Tuesday, 20 Jul 2010, 7:36 AM CDT
Published : Tuesday, 20 Jul 2010, 7:34 AM CDT
(NewsCore) - The actions of a black U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) official who admitted
withholding help to a white farmer facing bankruptcy were late Monday described as "shameful" by
the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Shirley Sherrod, the department's Georgia director of Rural Development, was exposed in a video
recorded at an NAACP banquet describing "the first time I was faced with having to help a white
farmer save his farm."
Sherrod claimed the farmer took a long time trying to show he was "superior" to her.
"I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I
was faced with having to help a white person save their land -- so I didn't give him the full force
of what I could do. I did enough," she said in the video.
The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after FOXNews.com published its initial
report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.
"There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA, and I strongly condemn any act of
discrimination against any person," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a written
statement.
"We have been working hard through the past 18 months to reverse the checkered civil rights
history at the department and take the issue of fairness and equality very seriously."
NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous agreed with the USDA's decision to accept
Sherrod's resignation and said the official had abused her power.
"Racism is about the abuse of power," Jealous said.
"Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer
in need of assistance because of his race.
"We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color
and female farmers.
"Her actions were shameful.

Obama Family Vacations:

Vineyard? First Posted: 07-15-10
08:40 AM Huffington Post
-- It's almost time for the Obama Family Vacation 2010. So where
will the First Family kick back and relax? This weekend they're all heading to
Mount Desert Island, Maine to check out Acadia National Park. Press Secretary
Robert Gibbs explained, "I think the First Family enjoyed immensely the trip out
West last year...I remember going on that trip, and you're obviously struck by the
beauty of our national park system. This builds off of that in Maine."
And according to Politics Daily, it's likely that the Obamas will return to
Martha's Vineyard in August, after enjoying their visit last year. However, there
has yet to be an official announcement.

July 15
(Bloomberg) -- Americans disapprove of U.S. President Barack Obama's
handling of almost every major issue and are deeply pessimistic about the nation's
direction, offering a bullish environment for Republicans in the November
congressional elections.
A majority or plurality disapproves of Obama's management of the
economy, health care, the budget deficit, the overhaul of financial market
regulations and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, according to a Bloomberg
National Poll conducted July 9- 12. In addition, almost 6 in 10 respondents say the
war in Afghanistan is a lost cause. The Senate is scheduled to begin voting on the
financial regulation bill today.
Almost two-thirds say they feel the nation is headed in the wrong
direction, an even more sour assessment than in March when 58 percent felt that
way. Two-thirds of independent voters are pessimistic, while just 56 percent of
Democrats offer a vote of confidence.

Civil Rights Panel to Renew Subpoenas, Pursue Federal Probe in Black Panther
Case
Published July 07, 2010 FoxNews.com
The bipartisan panel investigating allegations that the Justice
Department wrongly abandoned a case against the New Black Panther Party plans to
issue a new round of subpoenas and call for a separate federal probe following
explosive testimony from an ex-Justice official, a commissioner said. As the case
heats up, members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights may even travel to South
Carolina to track down one witness.
Former Justice attorney J. Christian Adams on Tuesday testified before the
commission that his former employer not only abandoned the voter intimidation case
for racial reasons, but had instructed attorneys in the civil rights division to
ignore cases that involve black defendants and white victims.

The Obama Administration's Hypocrisy on Immigration
Forbes.com July 7, 2010 - 5:30 pm Cory L. Andrews
Yesterday the Department of Justice filed its long anticipated lawsuit seeking
to block enforcement of Arizona’s recently passed immigration law, S.B. 1070.
Despite the Administration’s heated rhetoric over the past several weeks, including
its stunning apology to China for Arizona’s human rights record, the complaint
contains not a single claim that the Arizona law violates anyone’s civil rights,
whether resulting from racial profiling or otherwise.

Obama on Radical Recess
Appointments
Wednesday, July 7th 2010, 1:04 PM
WASHINGTON -- President Obama Wednesday bypassed the Senate and announced the
recess appointment Dr. Donald Berwick to be the administrator of the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The move drew fire from Republicans who had planned to fight his nomination.
Obama said the job had to be filled.
Conservatives say his views are "radical."
Under the recess appointment, Berwick will avoid the Senate nomination process
and he will serve until the end of the year, when the congressional term
expires.
"Democrats held no hearing, allowed no public testimony, and called no votes on
this nomination," said Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.).
"In short, they did everything to hide Dr. Berwick's radical views and made
absolutely no effort to follow the regular, established process for confirming a
presidential nomination. Clearly, they did not want Berwick's adamant support for
rationing health care debated in the light of day."
